Many of the master sayings are unique to Thomas. Where the sayings correlates to something in the biblical gospels the Thomas saying is often nuanced and different. One example of this is the parable of the lost sheep. In Matthew and Luke there is rejoicing as the lost sheep (the sinner) is returned to the flock. In Thomas however the errant sheep is valued more, simply for being errant. The One prepared to think for herself, the One prepared to leave the safety and comfort of the herd, this is the One loved more than the rest.
