Is Thomas similar to the biblical gospels?

About half of the sayings correlate with the biblical gospels though some are unique to Thomas. One example of this is the parable of the lost sheep. In Matthew 18 12-14 and Luke 15 3-7 there is rejoicing as the lost sheep is returned to the flock. In Thomas however the errant sheep is valued and loved more simply for being errant. This fits snugly with the concept of the Thomas solitary, the Lone Seeker, the one prepared to find her own way to the Divine.

The history of Orthodoxy is rooted in uniformity, the creation of institutions, and the drive to achieve doctrinal consisency. Thomas will have none of this suggesting that we should trust our lived experience above any abstraction or theory.
